Castlevania S02E03: Shadow Battles Review

This episode was solid, with some decent character building for Trevor, Alucard, Godbrand, and Carmilla. I find the Belmont mansion burning down when Trevor was 12 an interesting detail, as it kind of adds an element of imitation to his behavior, acting as what he remembers the Belmonts as and not necessarily as they were. Alucard not enjoying being in the Belmont vault was strong too, adds a nice angle to his character as to establish that he doesn't hate all vampires, possibly just Dracula, and takes issue with the Belmonts’ nosferatu slaying sensibilities. Godbrand also came across as more nuanced this episode, making some keen observations about Dracula and actually confronting the guy, and his total retreat from that in turn allows Carmilla to shine and establish a harder edge to her character as her declaration not to repeat her last Master’s relationship with Dracula adds a nice independent party to the whole situation. A good episode.
