Wonder Woman #3: Deadly Arrival! Review

“Wonder Woman" #3 wasn’t as exciting as the previous two issues, but by no means is it now bad, as this issue was still a lot of fun. As a reader, it's interesting to see which story elements can and can't be bypassed with magic, like Diana having super strength and being able to fly is no problem, but she has to find a college professor familiar with Ancient Greek to have somebody to talk to as her magic doesn’t give her the ability to speak English - I'm intrigued to see how quickly the series will have Diana adapt to the modern world and its sensibilities. This issue has Diana meeting her first real human helper/sidekick, Professor Julia Kapatelis, a history professor at Harvard University, to help her adjust to America and Boston, which is fun. We also start to see the more explicit comic book elements of the series finally really show up, with the villain Decay appearing at the book’s end to set up a big fight with Diana in the next issue, but again, the series is continuing with the Greek myth theme for everything still so of course said villain is also a mythological figure. And then having the villain Deimos be shown to give the exact same warmongering speech to the Americans and Soviets under his influence, and have them both react in the same bloodthirsty way, was pretty good commentary. A solid issue.
