Castlevania S02E07: For Love Review

Man, none of these character moments feel earned or deserved, like I don't feel like Team Kill Dracula has overcome their incorrect biases about one another and learned to work as a group; in fact, I never really got the sense that any of them actually disliked one another all that much - just snide remarks at most. I don't buy that Dracula is touched by Isaac's loyalty and uses his one escape chance to save Isaac’s life instead. And then the moment in the episode when Alucard and Dracula are face to face and Alucard's like "I'll stop you" and Dracula's like "You didn't before," and then the music swells and Trevor and Sypha walk into the room and Alucard's like "I'm not alone like before;" just shoot me man, that beat was so undeserved - these characters have not bonded like that, please! That bit in the episode with Dracula and his giant fireball that Sypha manages to push back through the power of friendship! was straight out of “Dragon Ball Z.” I feel like the show has maybe gone off the rails (or probably more accurately, never had any rails to begin with); Alucard and Dracula flying through the air just punching each other over and over felt like some mediocre shonen anime. Dracula saying the full name of the Belmont whip when Trevor tried to use it on him felt out of place, like the show was trying too hard to include references to the games. Man, I don’t really understand what’s left in the show now that Dracula’s dead, as hunting him was the last semblance of focus “Castlelvania” had, and now that’s gone too. This entire episode was anticlimactic, but well animated, I guess.
