“Madame Web” is better than its sibling Sony film “Morbius,” which is not an accomplishment. Outside of 2018’s “Venom,” all of Sony's live action Spiderverse films have been abject failures that beg the question why the films weren't taken out behind the shed and quietly shelved rather than released in this state of mediocrity. “Madame Web” is not interesting; “Madame Web” is not exciting; I do not feel compelled to see any more Madame Web films or the films of her three wayward "teenage" companions. Also Adam Scott's character was apparently supposed to be Peter Parker's Uncle Ben but the film does not make that clear and also who cares? The movie takes place in 2003, something I only know because characters in the movie keep saying "It is 2003" and not because the movie feels like it's set in 2003. A very bad movie; and again, much like the failure that was her brother “Morbius,” if I'm going to have to watch these pointless "Spider-Man but Spider-Man's not here" movies, then I wish “Madame Web” had just leaned in and been a more offensively bad film, because at least that would have been funny, which is a much better legacy than "should have been a tax write off."
